Charity Awards Winner 2009

Family Action celebrates its Charity Awards success! The tenth annual Charity Awards Foundation Charity Awards, sponsored by the Times and Plaza Publishing, took place on Thursday 11th June at Battersea Park, and Family Action was very proud to collect the prestigious Effectiveness Award.

Winner of Effectiveness Award - Family Action

We had initially been shortlisted, alongside Macmillan Cancer Care and the St Giles Trust, in the Social Care and Welfare category. Our nomination focused on our achievement in establishing the organisation on a firm financial footing following the transfer into the then Family Welfare Association of staff and services formerly provided by fsu (Family Service Units) in 2006.

The category award went to the St Giles Trust but Family Action was thrilled to instead be presented with the special award for Effectiveness for achievement in meeting or exceeding targets for delivery of charitable objectives by ‘using outstanding management skills to transform passion and ideas into effective outcomes’.

Presenting the award were renowned dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and Tania Mason of Plaza Publishing, who commended Family Action.

"“Family Action has received this award for pulling off a major step change in its ability to service its beneficiaries by carefully planning and sensitively executing a complex strategic objective under significant time constraints.”

Linton Kwesi Johnson, Dub Poet

The award was collected by Chief Executive Helen Dent ‘on behalf of everybody who makes the organisation what it is – its staff, service users, volunteers and trustees.’
